The 46-year-old record goalscorer of the country took over from long-term president Vlatko Markovic in 2012.
Suker capped 69 and scored 45 goals for Croatia in his career playing for Sevilla, Real Madrid and Arsenal.
In this summer's World Cup finals, Croatia will play the opening match against hosts Brazil on June 12.

The former Monaco, Bayern Munich and France defender was reported Tuesday to have suggested in an interview with Bordeaux newspaper Sud-Ouest's readers that African players lack " intelligence and discipline".
"If my lack of clarity or my imperfect semantics hurt or offended people, I'm sorry. I've never had any problems with anyone. Those were purely about sports but it was made into something political," said Sagnol at a pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's Bordeaux-Lens Ligue 1 tie.
"When I spoke about cheaper Africans who are ready to fight, I was simply talking about the young African players who arrive in Europe with all the will to succeed and often escaping a bad situation, " he said. "We were in a sports debate and so the intelligence which I referred to is to do with tactics."
"A lack of financial resources or infrastructure means African training is not as comprehensive as that provided in Europe and so they compensate for that through hard work. I didn't want to talk about intelligence in the sense of individuals," added the 37-year- old.

The one who defended Sagnol by saying he's clumsy was Bordeaux captain Lamine Sane. The Senegal international talked to French radio: "He doesn't have any twisted ideas. He believes in all the black players in the team. We believe in him and we hope to go very far with him."
The League of French Professional football (LFP) released a two- paragraph statement from president Frederic Thiriez, saying he considers "this case to be closed" following Sagnol's apology.
Sagnol, who took in charge of the French top-flight side this summer, made some extraordinary comments generalizing African players and announce that they're not welcome to Bordeaux.
"There will be a lot less African players signing for Bordeaux because I don't want to find myself with 12 players who, every two years, leave for a couple of months," said the boss
