RIO DE JANEIRO， Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Underestimated Britain proved themselves here on Sunday， chopping one game off each set from the all-time leading Chinese though losing 3-0 to miss the men' s team semifinals of table tennis at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
The 2016 world team championships' semifinalists opened the last eight match in style as Liam Pitchford， 23 years old and Olympic scholarship holder， rushed 6-0 against Ma Long before beating the newly crowned Olympic singles gold medalist 11-6.
Ma， however， later showed the true color of a world No. 1 and Grand Slam winner by breezily taking the second game 11-4 to tie on games 1-1.
He again stumbled in the following two games but twice overcame a two-point deficit of 9-7 to wrap up the set 6-11， 11-4， 11-9， 11-9.
The similar scene was repeated when world No. 3 male paddler Xu Xin took the 26-year-old Paul Drinkhall， surrendering his first game 9-11 before coming back 11-6， 11-6， 11-7.
Xu， also 26， then teamed up with the only other active Grand Slam winner of men' s table tennis Zhang Jike to overcome a late comeback of the British pair of Samuel Walker and Drinkhall 11-4， 11-7， 11-13， 11-4.
Before their quarterfinal face-off with China， the trio of Britain battled past France in full sets and full games in Friday' s first round.
The Chinese men' s team will next play South Korea en route to defending their second straight Olympic team title after the London silver medalists denied a mid-way high-light performance from Mattias Karlsson to beat Sweden 3-1.

VIENTIANE， March 24 (Xinhua) -- The Lao-Thai Railway Construction Project Phase II (Section I) is now completed and ready for service， local daily Vientiane Times reported Friday.
The project handover ceremony was held Thursday between Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Thailand's Neighboring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA).
Section I was financially supported by NEDA， which provides over 656 million Thai baht (nearly 19 million U.S. dollars) by NEDA. Of the money， 30 percent is a grant and 70 percent is low interest loan， the Lao Railway Department Director General Sompong Pholsena said at the ceremony.
The project began in September， 2013. The Section I comprises a siding track at Thanalaeng Station in Laos， 5，800 meters of railway mainline expansion from Thanalaeng station to a container yard， along with upgrading of the signalling and telecommunications system from analogue to digital allowing computer controls， he said.
There is also a 38，000--square meter container yard and more than 2，000 meters of concrete access roads， an over 5，000--square meter warehouse， three floors of administration offices， weight entry gate and other facilities such as electrical system， water supply， fire prevention system and waste management facility.
The railway is one of the projects to boost close cooperation between Laos and Thailand. It is also to promote trading and investment as well as tourism between the two countries in order to link with Asia and the region， said NEDA President Newin Sinsiri.
Section II， which comprises a 7.5 km railway expansion from Thanalaeng station to Vientiane station at Khamsavath village in Laos and other facilities， will begin at the end of 2017.

At the tail end of 2007 it was announced by Chrysler that the Magnum
